Weekly Newsletter - w/c Monday 4 May

Alright Leeds music lovers, another week is upon us, and the city's venues are buzzing with a fantastic array of live performances. Whether you're after something mellow to ease you into the week or a full-on weekend banger, there's plenty to get stuck into.

This Week's Soundwaves

We're kicking things off with a bit of a midweek treat. For those who appreciate the classics, you can catch Submotion Orchestra at The Wardrobe on Tuesday. If you're leaning more towards the indie and alternative side, Hyde Park Book Club has a couple of strong contenders. On Tuesday, catch the sounds of Truthpaste, and then on Wednesday, Elle Coves will be gracing the stage. For those who love a bit of a retro vibe, Austin's Summer Salt are bringing their sun-soaked charm to Headrow House on Tuesday – perfect for shaking off any lingering winter blues.

As we head towards the end of the week, things really pick up. Thursday sees a bit of a global flavour with the return of the legendary Zamrock band WITCH at Belgrave Music Hall, promising a night of electrifying rhythms. If you're after something a bit more intimate, Joshua Burnside will be at Brudenell Social Club with his unique blend of experimental folk.

The weekend is looking particularly strong. Friday night offers a diverse range of options. You can dive into the jazzy vibes with Frankly Jazz at The Domino Club, or get your alt-rock fix with The Dulakes at The Royal Park. For a bit of a throwback, The Warehouse is hosting Proud Mary for a night of rock anthems.

Saturday is a real smorgasbord. Get ready to move to the infectious Afrobeat rhythms of the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Experience at Brudenell Social Club. If you're in the mood for something a bit different, the Live Electronic Jam at Hyde Park Book Club sounds like a great opportunity for improvisation and collaboration. And for those wanting to relive the glory days, The Warehouse is hosting a 'Bed by 22:00' event, a chance to dance to classics from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s without sacrificing your Sunday lie-in.

Just Announced

Looking ahead, some cracking gigs have just been added to the calendar, so get those diaries ready. If you're a fan of iconic 90s alternative rock, you'll be thrilled to hear that R.E.M. By Stipe are set to play The Wardrobe on Friday, 9th April 2027. That's a bit of a wait, but definitely one to mark down.

For those who love a bit of reggae, get ready for the legendary Barrington Levy at Brudenell Social Club on Saturday, 1st May 2027. And if you're looking for some serious funk and soul, Craig Charles is bringing his Funk & Soul House Party to O2 Academy Leeds on Friday, 5th February 2027.

Further into the future, keep an eye out for The View celebrating 20 years of 'Hats Off to the Buskers' at Leeds University on Friday, 26th February 2027. And for a truly spectacular celebration of Bollywood magic, Say Shava Shava is coming to City Varieties on Sunday, 14th June 2026, promising a vibrant blend of music and dance.

That’s all for this week! Get out there, support your local venues, and enjoy the incredible live music Leeds has to offer.
