Matt Aplin is a pianist, composer and arranger based in the North of England. He regularly performs around the country with a variety of projects, including the Jonny Enser Quintet, a contemporary jazz group focusing on modern repertoire (such as the music of Alex Sipiagin, David Binney, and original compositions) and his own trio, in which he plays a mixture of American and European standards, as well as his own tunes. He has studied under Les Chisnall, Jami Sherriff, Kathy Dyson and John Gough, and has participated in workshops with musicians such as Kenny Wheeler, Peter King and Jerry Bergonzi. He has performed all around country in various settings and styles (particularly jazz, classical and pop), as well as appearing on a number of recording projects. As well as all his performance work, Matthew has recently become interested in composition, and has written and arranged for a variety of ensembles, including solo piano, string quartet, and jazz groups of various sizes.
